Smokey News from Chesil

Many thanks to you, our loyal customers, for all your orders. At a time when our business with hotels, restaurants, airlines, pub, clubs and cafes has fallen off a cliff, you have kept our doors open and our staff employed. We thank and salute you.

We’ve had a hurdle or two to jump with supply chain issues of our own. Our regular Scottish salmon supplier shut his doors (hopefully only temporary) but we managed to secure an alternative from an old friend which can keep us going for the foreseeable future. Likewise, Parcelforce has had its own set of problems which mean that a few of our parcels have taken 48 hours to arrive rather than the usual 24. Extra icepacks have meat that the packages remained cool.

Here’s a pic of the Parcelforce van leaving on Monday!

We’d like to keep our offering to you as relevant as possible so would be grateful for some feedback for our next idea.

We have access to some of the finest fish and shellfish here in Dorset. It seems crazy for so much of the best of it to head off to the Continent.

Local fishermen are tied up at the moment, as the main markets down here have suffered so much with the closure of all the hotels and restaurants.

So, in future, we plan to offer fresh fish and shellfish and shellfish to be delivered chilled to you on a Thursday. Depending on the season, this would include plaice, bream, cod, pollack, brown and rainbow trout, haddock, bass, turbot, brill, crab meat, lobster etc. You choose, we prepare, chill and send. The offering would be different each week, depending on the catches. We’d send a reminder each Monday and would need to receive your order by Wednesday morning at the latest so that you’d receive it all firm and bright-eyed in time for the weekend.
